Project Backstory

As a result of COVID-19, I opted for fully online learning. At which time, my school informed me that I would not be able to participate in my honors choir.

I started reaching out to musicians I've met over the years and that was when the Sostenuto Project was born!

ABout the project

For one hour every other week, professional musicians agreed to teach my classmates and I about their expertise in music... for free! Mentors chose to teach a lesson either in-person while social distancing, on Google Meets/Zoom, or on a pre-recorded video. After the workshop was conducted, some mentors gave students a fun and interactive assignment that related back to the topic they taught about. With student's permission, that final product was put on the project Instagram page: @sostenutoproject

MEANING BEHIND THE NAME

Sostenuto means to sustain in Italian.

In music, it means to prolong the note that you are playing.

I chose to call my newly found "music class" the Sostenuto Project because of my effort to continue not only my own, but also my classmates', musical educations.

Participation and Contact Info

Sostenuto Project concluded in June of 2021.
